Week of May 2nd

Yesterday was the first day of May...it's hard to believe that we are in the final month of school. We will be busy for the next 4 weeks.

Math-Geometry: We are working on 2D and 3D shapes, as well as types of angles.

Science-Life cycles: We are currently watching our tadpoles grow each day, as well as beginning to watch our lima bean seeds sprout. Our class will also learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

ELA-We are reading many books by Kevin Henkes and working on writing about connections we have (text-to text, text-to-self, text-to-world). This week we will begin working on our final writing project of the year.

March 21-25

Math-This week we are beginning a new unit in math. We will be learning about fractions! Have your child look for fractions in real world situations.

Social Studies-This week we will learn about different government leaders and their responsibilities.

LA-This week we will learn how to use quotation marks properly in our writing to show dialogue. We will also review writing a summary on a book we have read.

March 7-11

Coming this week...

Math-We are working on division this week! The students are doing a great job with this unit and working very hard. We have done some fun activities, ask your child about them.

Science-We will being a new science unit this week. Our unit will focus on pushes and pulls. We will learn about simple machines.

LA-This week we will review friendly letters and take a test on the parts of a letter. We will also begin our writing performance assessment. The students will go through the writing process over the next two weeks to produce a final persuasive writing piece.

Week of Jan. 31, 2011

We can't believe it is almost February! As of Friday, we have been in school for 93 days. The kids have been counting down to the 100th day at school for a while now and now it is getting close.
This week we will be focusing on the following skills:
Math: We will be finishing up our money unit this week by reviewing using centers. Our end of unit test will be on Friday.

Science: We will begin a new science unit this week. For the next few weeks we will be learning about types of energy.

Reading: We are focusing on vowel digraphs this week during reading. We will practice writing words and reading words containing digraphs.

Language Arts: We are continuing our persuasive unit this week. We will continue to practice forming opinions and developing reasons. We are also learning about homophones and abbreviations.
