Pictures from Red Ribbon Week

Enjoy pictures from last week!

Can you believe it is almost November?

My class has been working so hard this year. We can't believe October is almost over!
This week:
Math-We are practicing subtraction. It is important to practice subtraction at home! We are also learning how to use addition to check our subtraction problems and subtraction to check our addition problems. Our Unit 3 test is coming up next week!
LA and Reading-We are learning about possessive nouns this week. Possessive nouns have an apostrophe s and they show ownership or that something belongs. We are learning a song--have your child sing the song at home! In reading, we are learning how to use the dictionary to help us find information. We are also talking about recipes and how important it is to follow the steps in order. Have your child help you cook at home using a recipe!

We are looking forward to Book Character dress up day on Friday! Remember, no masks or scary costumes.
Also, come out to the Lake Forest parking lot on Friday 10/30 at 6:30 to participate in Trick or Trunk. Children will pay $2 and will be able to trick or treat from car to car! It will be a fun and safe night. Hope to see you there!

Coming up next week

This week we started our informational unit for Language Arts. We began exploring the different parts of informational books. Students should be familiar with:

  • Table of Contents
  • Chapter Headings
  • Glossary
  • Index

Next week we will continue our informational unit by beginning to create our own animal books. We will also practice ABC order skills that help when locating words in the glossary, index, and a dictionary.

In math, we will continue 2 and 3 digit addition and begin 2 and 3 digit subtraction. You might see your child using the following strategies at home to solve the problems:

  • Draw a picture
  • Expanded form
  • Algorithm
